T2 Biosystems is a private company developing a next-generation medical diagnostic platform that will enable rapid and accurate diagnostic tests of all types on a single, easy to use instrument. The proprietary technology combines nanotechnology and miniaturized magnetic resonance (MR) technology and eliminates the need for costly and time consuming sample preparation.
T2 Biosystems’ platform technology has been validated in multiple published journal articles and has shown to accurately detect viruses, bacteria, proteins, hormones, DNA, small molecules and other diagnostic targets in a variety of liquid specimens including blood, serum, plasma and urine.
The Company is currently developing a pipeline of diagnostic tests, which will be performed on both benchtop and hand portable versions of its instrument which will be commercialized directly by the company and through the company’s partners.

The Market Need for POC Diagnostics
Clinical laboratories have traditionally set the standard for diagnostic accuracy, but can take hours, days or weeks to return results, impeding critical care decisions.
Point-of-care and home testing have proven to offer timely results, but often lack reliability. Many analytes are not currently addressed by portable systems and no single platform is universally applicable across disease states or markets.
While traditional MRI is extremely accurate and the gold standard for diagnosis in multiple disease states, it involves full body scans, requiring patients to lie still in large chambers, which have limited availability and are too expensive, complicated and cumbersome for most diagnostic uses.
