John McDonough

Chief Executive Officer

John McDonough joined T2 Biosystems in 2007.  Prior to joining T2, Mr. McDonough was President of Cytyc Development Corporation and had responsibility for designing and executing Cytyc Corporation’s acquisition and investment strategy for growing the company from a single product company with revenue of approximately $300 million in 2003 to a company with revenue of approximately $750 million from multiple products in 2007. In total, Cytyc acquired five companies totaling over $1 billion in acquisitions and also entered into alliances and investments with several early stage companies.  John most recently led the efforts that resulted in Cytyc’s acquisition by Hologic, Inc. in October, 2007 for over $6 billion, representing almost a four times increase in Cytyc’s market cap over a four year period.  During Mr. McDonough’s tenure at Cytyc, he also had responsibility for Cytyc’s Research & Development, Operations and Regulatory functions. 

Mr. McDonough came to Cytyc after serving as co-founder, CEO and president at SoundBite Communications, a customer communications company which went public in 2007.  Previously, he was COO of Direct Hit Technologies, an Internet search engine company that was successfully acquired in January, 2000 for over $500 million, and CEO and President of Workgroup Technology, a publicly held company that developed and marketed product development management solutions.  Mr. McDonough also spent 10 years with Easel Corporation where he held the role of CFO, COO and then CEO of a start-up company that grew into a publicly held company in 1990 and which was acquired in 1995. 

Mr. McDonough is a Certified Public Accountant and was a Senior Accountant with Deloitte, Haskins and Sells after graduating Magna cum Laude from Stonehill College in 1981.

Kirsten A. Anderson, Esq.

Vice President, Intellectual Property
 
Ms. Anderson joined T2 Biosystems in April, 2007.  She brings over 14 years of legal experience to the company, serving most recently as Chief Patent Counsel for Critical Therapeutics, Inc., a publicly traded biopharmaceutuical company, where she managed and developed a rapidly expanding patent portfolio and assessed third party intellectual property positions as well as handled numerous licensing and contract matters.  Prior to joining Critical Therapeutics, Ms. Anderson held increasingly responsible positions at Elan Drug Delivery at Elan’s corporate headquarters in Dublin, Ireland; Genencor International (now part of Royal DSM N.V.); Repligen Corporation and a local intellectual property boutique law firm. 

Ms. Anderson received her B.S. in Chemistry from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and her J.D. from Northeastern School of Law. She is admitted to the Bar in Massachusetts and is also registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Pablo J. Prado, PhD

Vice President, System Development

Dr. Prado joined T2 Biosystems in September, 2007. He brings over 15 years of experience in Magnetic Resonance methods and instrumentation. Prior to joining T2 Biosystems, Dr. Prado was Senior Manager and Project Leader for New Product Introductions with the General Electric Company, San Diego. He was responsible for the development of several portable Magnetic Resonance devices for applications ranging from landmine detection (Office of Naval Research) to non-invasive rocket motor testing (Lockheed Martin). He led several government contracts valued to up to $15M.

Dr. Prado attained a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of New Brunswick, Canada in 1996 and completed MRI postdoctoral programs in Canada and Germany. In 2005, Dr. Prado completed a Professional Project Management Certificate at the University of California, San Diego. He has an extensive record of innovative technology development, including patent awards and publication of book chapters and peer-reviewed articles. He is a grant reviewer for the National Institute of Health’s SBIR/STTR Program and a reviewer for the Journal of Magnetic Resonance.

 

Kim Foster, PhD

Director, Assay Development
 

Dr. Foster joined T2 Biosystems in December, 2007. She has over 20 years experience in the development of clinical in-vitro diagnostics assays; including experience with a number diagnostic instrumentation platforms.  Most recently, Dr. Foster was the Associate Director of Bioanalytical Development at Shire Biologics.  Her responsibilities included overseeing the bioanalytical and animal facility departments in the development of analytical assays and clinical testing for the S. pneumonia vaccine and the flu vaccine.  Before joining Shire, Dr. Foster was the Manager of Protein Chemistry at Bayer Diagnostics.  She led a group of scientists in the development of a variety of FDA approved automated clinical diagnostic assays for oncology and cardiac disease markets. Additionally, she was responsible for introducing a universal reagents concept for streamlining assay development and ease of manufacturing and product support. Prior to this role, Dr. Foster was a Senior Scientist at Behring Diagnostics where she led a group of scientists developing clinical assays for the Behring automated instrument. 

Dr. Foster received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Medical College of Virginia (1985) followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in the department of Pharmacology at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.

Rahul K. Dhanda

Director, Strategic Marketing
 
Mr. Dhanda joined T2 Biosystems in January, 2008.  He brings over a dozen years of experience in the Life Science industry, both in biotechnology and medical devices. Prior to joining T2 Biosystems, Mr. Dhanda worked in marketing at Boston Scientific Urology, where he led the team responsible for the Access, Visualization and Laser Lithotripsy franchises, representing roughly $100 million in annual revenue.  His responsibilities included upstream and downstream management of mature and breakthrough, platform technologies.  Prior to Boston Scientific, Mr. Dhanda worked in Business Development at Interleukin Genetics, where he held roles of increasing responsibility.  While there, he helped negotiate the firm’s acquisition by Alticor, Inc., as well as multiple other deals.  Mr. Dhanda has also worked at Mosaic Technologies, a platform diagnostics company, as well as Harvard Medical School’s Beth Israel Medical Center.
 
Mr. Dhanda received his MBA from MIT’s Sloan School of Management and his BA from Wesleyan University.  He is a committee member of the AAAS Committee on Scientific Freedom and Responsibility, as well as a Senior Fellow of the Jamestown Project at Harvard Law School.  Mr. Dhanda is the author of several publications, an inventor on numerous patents and applications, and has authored the first book to address the crossroads between industry and bioethics/public policy, entitled Guiding Icarus: Merging Bioethics with Corporate Interests.
